My name is Myah. I am sixteen years old. I was born with an underdeveloped left cerebellum and this affects my physical balance and co ordination of muscles. My speech is somewhat unclear and I stumble a lot. I work to improve my mobility everyday. I have learned a lot through the challenges of my life but the most important thing I have learned so far is that anything is possible. I have decided to go to Peru and participate in a trek to Machu Picchu in the Andes Mountains. This will be a challenge in many ways.

I will be going on the trek that is organized by a group called Equip KIDS International who provides assistive devices for disabled kids in Peru. They also educate families and communities about how to live and care for people with disabilities. One of the main things the people at Equip Kids believe in is that every child, disabled or not, has unlimited potential and that they should be given opportunities to fulfill that potential. Nobody thought I would do any of the things I have done, including being able to walk, but as soon as they saw that I wouldn’t give up, everyone I have ever known has been behind me cheering me on.

That’s what I am hoping for again. My mom and I are raising money to pay for our trek. We need to raise $6,000 just to get there and complete the trek. We need to raise a minimum of $500 each that will go directly to Equip Kids as well. We hope to raise a lot more than this. We hope to raise enough money to make a huge difference in a lot of disabled kid’s lives. When we arrive we will meet with the kids at the rehab centre in Cusco and then trek up to Machu Picchu. It’s a ten day journey that I hope to inspire and open people’s eyes to the great need for support and awareness of disabled kids and their challenges in Peru and throughout the world.
I will let them know about my great country and my amazing community that believes that Anything Is Possible!
